Bisabolone

Bisabolone is a sesquiterpene contained in essential oil. This molecule is a fascinating intermediate. Deoxygenated (- [O]) species, bisabolenes are fragrant compounds that smell floral, woody, and herbal. Oxygenated (+ [OH]) analog, hernandulcin, is a natural product that tastes 1000x sweeter than sugar. Nature does a beautiful trick where the addition and removal of one element, oxygen, dramatically alters the property of the molecule.
